NEWS RELEASE -- MAFB brings out the BIG band
Gay and lesbian band features more performers than ever for its series-ending big band show
Kansas City, Mo. – Tickets go on sale today for Mid America Freedom Band’s In the Mood for that Big Band Sound, featuring its largest performing group on April 5 at 8 p.m.
The Freedom Band, Kansas City’s gay and lesbian community band, is finishing its sixth season, featuring an In the Mood series, with its April 5 show at The Paseo Academy for Fine and Performing Arts at 4747 Flora, featuring a wide variety of big band and jazz favorites from years gone by.
"The
band has really come together nicely for this show," said Presten Fry,
Artistic Director. "We've reached a size where we can do much more to the
blend and balance in our sound and take on bold pieces like those featured in
this concert. We were good before, and we just keep getting better. We're finally
moving away from being the best kept secret in Kansas City"
The band sells tickets to the
show for only $10 online and through band members, and for $12 at the door. The
90-minute show concludes with a free reception with the instrumentalists.
This concert is the final
formal performance of the band for its In
the Mood concert series, though new members can join up for summer outreach
performances such as AIDS Walk, Kansas City Pride, and a special performance at
St. Louis Pride.
Members of the public can
view more information about the band, purchase tickets, make donations and
learn about joining as a volunteer or performer at www.mafbmusic.org.
